Ghana is a fascinating country in West Africa with a diverse culture and friendly people.
It is bordered by Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south (Atlantic Ocean).
It was the first African country to gain independence from Britain, in 1957 and was recently chosen by US President Obama in 2009 to visit, describing it as a 'beacon' of Africa.
